After an incredibly exciting day of tight competition, we're pleased to congratulate The Early College at Guilford, our High School State Champion, and Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy, our Middle School State Champion!

 

 After an incredibly exciting day of tight competition at West Pine Middle School in Pinehurst, the North Carolina Association for Scholastic Activities is pleased to announce the winners of the 2017 Quiz Bowl State Final. Students were quizzed on everything from Vanadium to Mystery Science Theater 3000.  The top two middle and top two high schools will be invited to the NAQT Middle and High School National Quiz Bowl Championship Tournaments in May. 

In the high school final, Raleigh Charter took an early lead but The Early College at Guilford took over at Question 8 and ended winning 380 to 235. Guilford ended the day undefeated. Raleigh Charter ended second and lost only to Guilford.  On Guilford’s winning team were Grey Howard (Captain), Tejas Santanam, Derek Chen, and Ridge Ren. Providence High School took third and NC School of Science and Mathematics finished fourth. The remaining top 10 standings are:

5- Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy

6- Atkins A&T High School

7- Carrboro High School

8- Western Guilford High School

9- Ardrey Kell High School

10- High Point Central High School

Jordan-Matthews High School, Ledford High School, Cross Creek Early College, Christ School, Northwest Guilford High School, and Terry Sanford High School also participated.

In the final match for middle schools, Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy defeated Mount Mourne School of Mooresville 435 to 260. Metrolina won the first two questions and never looked back. On Metrolina's 6-1 team were Meeta Sindagi, Teagan Sullivan, Billy Di Bella, Samanya Dixit, Shreyas Iyer, and Justin Zhang. Smith Middle School of Chapel Hill and Ligon Middle School of Raleigh finished third and fourth respectively. The remaining top ten standings are:

5- Brown Summit Middle School

6- JN Fries Middle School

7- Thomas Jefferson Classical

8- Jay M Robinson Middle School

9- West Pine Middle School

10- 71st Classical Middle School

Northeast Academy of Aerospace and Advanced Technologies and Northwest Guilford Middle School also participated.
