After an incredibly exciting day of competition, we're pleased to congratulate The Early College at Guilford, our High School State Champion, and Smith Middle School, our Middle School State Champion! Smith is shown above.

 

After an incredibly exciting day of tight competition on March 16 at Myers Park High School, the North Carolina Association for Scholastic Activities is pleased to announce the winners of the 2019 Quiz Bowl State Final.  Congratulations to The Early College at Guilford, our High School State Champion, and Smith Middle School of Chapel Hill, our Middle School State Champion!  The top two middle and top three high schools will be invited to the NAQT Middle and High School National Quiz Bowl Championship Tournaments in May. 

In the high school final, Early College (9-0) took an early lead and never looked back at runner-up Simon G Atkins (8-1) to win 355-190. Raleigh Charter finished in third with a 6-2 record, NCSSM was fourth at 5-3.   The remaining top 10 standings are:

5 - Thomas Jefferson (6-2)

6 - Western Guilford (5-3)

7 - Myers Park (5-3)

8 - Carrboro (4-4)

9 - Providence (5-3)

10 - South Iredell (3-5)

11 - Piedmont Classical (3-5)

12 - Gray Stone Day (2-6)

STEM at NC A&T, Northwood, Hickory, and Brunswick Early College also qualified and participated.

In the final match for middle schools, Smith (7-0) dominated from question 1 and beat Jay M Robinson Middle School (5-2) of Fayetteville 365-275. Northwest Guilford and Thales Academy finished third and fourth respectively. The remaining top ten standings are:

5 - Thomas Jefferson (4-2)

6 - Seventy-First Classical (3-3)

7 - Ligon Magnet (4-2)

8 - Academy at Lincoln (2-4)

9 - Brown Summit (2-4)

10 - Metrolina Regional Scholars (2-4)

Bethel School and NC Leadership Academy also qualified and participated.
