NCASA is pleased to announce Regional winners and State Final Qualifiers for The Quill!

During the week of October 22, students across North Carolina sat down to computers at their home schools to respond to on-demand writing prompts in regional competitions for the state writing competition, The Quill.  Prompts covered the core curriculum types of Argumentation, Problem/Solution, Narrative Writing (middle school), Creative Writing (high school), Informative/Explanatory (middle school), and Literary Analysis (high school).  

Students competed to move on to the December 1 State Final hosted by Northwest Guilford High School. There, after a morning of writing, students will be treated to speaker and published author Barbara Presnell.

Regionals divided the state into East, Central, and West divisions.  The following schools and individuals advanced to the State Final:

East Regional High Schools:

1 - NC School of Science and Mathematics

2 - Wayne School of Engineering

3 - Falls Lake Academy

Central Regional High Schools:

1 - SG Atkins A&T HS

2 - Northwood HS

3 - Piedmont Classical HS

4 - The Early College at Guilford

Also advancing - Creative Writing and Literary Analysis from Northwest Guilford HS

West Regional High Schools:

1 - Concord HS

2 - Thomas Jefferson Classical HS

3 - Hickory HS

East Regional Middle Schools:

1 - Wayne School of Engineering MS

2 - Horton MS

3 - Hope MS

4 - EB Aycock MS

5 - Hanes MS

Also advancing - Narrative from Falls Lake Academy
