The Quill

 

Teams of four students must create written products given a prompt from a specific text type. The Quill is an original competition developed in cooperation with the North Carolina Reading Association (NCRA), and is aligned with Common Core standards.

Saturday, December 7 marked the 2019 State Finals of The Quill, the state writing competition for middle and high school students in North Carolina.  The event was hosted by Hope School and saw students responding to prompts in Argumentation, Problem/Solution, Narrative (middle school), Creative Writing (high school), Informative/Explanatory (middle school), and Literary Analysis (high school).  

 In addition to the 90-minute on-demand writing session, students heard local editor Bobby Burns speak about his experiences as a writer.

 The following are our top ranked schools and individual winners in each event:

NCASA is pleased to announce Regional winners and State Finals Qualifiers for The Quill!

On October 24, students across North Carolina sat down to computers at their schools to respond to on-demand writing prompts in regional competitions for the state writing competition, The Quill.  Prompts covered the core curriculum types of Argumentation, Problem/Solution, Narrative Writing (middle school), Creative Writing (high school), Informative/Explanatory (middle school), and Literary Analysis (high school).
