Art Showcase

Art Showcase is a competition that recognizes both the best individual artists and best art programs in North Carolina schools. An unlimited number of students in each school may participate in the school-level competition. Students are presented with a prompt and given about one month to create their submission. Media categories include painting, drawing, collage, photography, and other creative efforts. Electronic copies of submissions are sent to NCASA and forwarded to judges. Submissions from top teams and students from each category advance to the State Finals and are evaluated by judges in a live exhibition.

Shown below are the results from the 2018 Art Showcase Regionals. All schools listed below advanced to the February 17 State Final hosted by Durham School of the Arts.

Advancement - All schools are divided into Regionals according to the first letter of your code. E = East, C = Central, W = West. Schools may be moved to a different Regional to balance the number of competing schools in each Regional. Judges will score and compare submissions only against other submissions from their own Region.

Scoring - Judges will review the submissions for quality, creativity, and adherence to the prompt and give each submission a score of 1-5 with 5 being the highest score and 1 being the lowest score. A maximum of two 5's will be awarded in each Region. Each other score (1, 2, 3, 4) must be awarded at least once.

NCASA presented the 4th Annual Art Showcase on December 5th.  Artworks from over 150 students were exhibited, and with an impressive showing, we are happy to announce the individual winners in eight media, overall team winners, as well as best in show for both middle schools and high schools.

Joseph Bathanti, NC Poet Laureate from 2012-2014, created this poem which is the prompt for the 2015 Art Showcase competition. Students should use this poem as the inspiration for their submissions.

NCASA presented the State Finals of the Art Showcase Competition on May 4, 2013 at the Kannapolis Performing Arts Center. Students created works in seven media types after receiving a prompt. Student winners were recognized in each media type and took home trophies and scores were combined to create a team score. Students from the top three schools took home medals and the top school took home the trophy.

Jay M Robinson Middle School dominated by winning six of the seven individual events. In the high school division, the top three high schools had equal scores and the tiebreaker of using the sixth-best score was used to determine first, second, and third place. Complete results are shown below:
