    Web Link First Freedom Student Competition

    National Essay Contest in which students examine the First Amendment and address topics that delve into the history and current relevance of religious liberty. Prizes awarded up to $3,000.

    Web Link FIRST Robotics Challenge

    Teams of young people are challenged to solve a common problem over six weeks using standard parts and common rules. Teams build robots from the parts and enter them in competitions.

    Students design and build robots to compete and cooperate in alliances at tournaments. While applying math and science concepts, students develop problem-solving and team-building skills.

    Web Link National History Bee and Bowl

    The National History Bee is a new buzzer-based tournament for individual students to compete in a quiz game that relies on the knowledge of history topics. Students and teams compete at state tournaments around the country to qualify for our National Championships in Washington, DC in April.

    National History Day in North Carolina is an academic program that promotes the teaching and learning of history while helping students improve reading, writing, research, analysis, and presentation skills.

    An opportunity for students to demonstrate their economic literacy by competing with other students across the state in written and oral examinations including a variety of topics.

    A fun, hands-on, challenging natural science academic competition on Aquatic Ecology, Forestry, Soils & Land Use, Wildlife and Current Environmental Issues.

    The NC State Math Contest is a network of math contests held in NC. Competition is offered in four divisions, with one round of State-level runoffs for top students.

    Students learn about poetry through memorization and performance, master public speaking skills, build self-confidence and learn about our literary heritage.

    A competition in which students present and debate topics in an oral fashion to gain experience and excellence in the area of public speaking.

    The N.C. Department of Transportation's Statewide Model Bridge Building Competition – designed to create a greater awareness of careers in transportation, construction, engineering and NCDOT services – gives students across North Carolina the opportunity to making the connection between what they learn in the classroom and real-world applications.

    Web Link PEA Environmental Debate Tournament

    Our Environmental Debate program provides local high school and college students the opportunity to engage in competitive, academic debate on newsworthy environmental issues. The program includes an Annual Environmental Debate Tournament for high school students, Environmental Debate programming at the Earth Day Fair, and other featured debates throughout the year.

    Science Fairs provide an opportunity for students, 3rd through 12th grades, who are interested in science and technology to pursue their personal areas of interest and to display their research as a presentation in a public competitive forum.

    CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program.  There are three main programs within CyberPatriot: the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, AFA CyberCamps and the Elementary School Cyber Education Initiative. CyberPatriot was conceived by the Air Force Association (AFA) to inspire students toward careers in c​ybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation's future.

    For more than 40 years, the North Carolina Council on Economic Education (NCCEE) has sponsored a number of academic competitions focusing on economics, personal finance and entrepreneurship for North Carolina students in primary and secondary schools designed to support and enhance the economic education experience.
