Quiz Bowl

 

Two teams of four compete head to head to be the first to answer questions read by a moderator. Quiz Bowl is presented in cooperation with National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT).

 

The 2016 Regional Quiz Bowl Tournaments were hosted by six sites throughout North Carolina on March 5. 86 teams competed in 17 tournaments to be crowned Regional Champions and advance to the March 19 State Final hosted by NC School of Science and Mathematics of Durham. Shown below are the rankings of the advancing teams from each Regional:

Schools registered for the 2016 Regional Quiz Bowl Tournaments. High Schools are shown in blue. Middle Schools are shown in red. Schools with a B team have a (B) after their name. A minimum of three B teams are required to form a B team tournament. Registration is now closed, but B teams may be added through February 19.

NCASA held the State Quiz Bowl Tournament Saturday, April 13 at Rogers-Herr Middle School in Durham. Winning the high school championship with a 8-0 record was Myers Park High School. Winning the middle school title with a 4-0 record was Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy of Rutherford County.

Myers Park took the title over second place Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy (high school). The final match was nearly even at halftime, but Myers Park surged ahead in the second half to take the title 255-205. Members of Myers Park HS quiz bowl team are co-captains Sona Kumar, Nikhil Kumar, Pooja Panduranga. Jabe Christiensen, Nathanial Holderman, Bo Carlson, and Elie Acheson.  Winning medals for finishing in third place was Millbrook High School of Raleigh.  Shown below is the final position of the remaining teams that advanced to the State Final.

In addition to an annual state championship tournament, the NCASA will also sponsor conference league play for a six-week period in the spring so teams can practice for the state contest. More details will be posted soon. We'll also host an Open Quiz Bowl tournament earlier in the year to give your players a taste of what the real contest is like.
