We are delighted to announce the NCASA Annual Meeting was May 13 at 11:00 AM presented in the UNC Greensboro Auditorium. 

 

During the Annual Meeting we recognized Cup Partners and thanked sponsors. 

 
The following educators were elected as directors of the association:
  • Jennifer Bader, Teacher and Coach, Trinity Episcopal

• Christel Carlyle, Scholastic Director and Director of Middle School Education, Lenoir County Public Schools
• Jenny Hobgood, Teacher and Coach, South Granville High School
• Paul Holloman, Teacher and Coach, Rock Mount High School
• Doug Massengill, Principal, Massey Hill Classical Academy
• Scott Plaster, Teacher and Scholastic Director, Atkins High School
• Tegan Searle, Teacher and Coach, West Pine Middle School
• Brandon Whitaker, Principal, Sam Gentry Middle School

The President's Message and State of the Association were also presented. 
 
New officers were elected in our Board of Directors meeting:
President - Jeff James, superintendent, Iredell-Statesville Schools
Vice-President - Scott Plaster, scholastic director and coach, Atkins High School
Treasurer - Beth Herrick, coach, Northwest Guilford High School
 
 
Finally, the board voted to expand our membership and competition offerings to include elementary school. While many details will be developed over the summer, the following decisions were made:
  • Four activities will be presented at the middle school level: Quiz Bowl, The Quill (on-demand writing), Art Showcase (visual art), and Speech
  • Committees will meet over the summer to complete development of these activities for students in grades 4-5
  • District and / or regional level competitions will be presented. Elementary school students will not compete in state-level competitions.
  • The membership fee for elementary schools is $300. Once paid, schools may participate in all competitions at no additional cost.
  • LEA's that register all elementary schools receive a 50% discount off the total school registration fee.
