Show Choir

 

Show choirs first compete in Regionals to qualify for the State Final each year, in the only competition of its kind in the state of North Carolina. 

 

The William Peace University North Carolina Show Choir Competition State Finals were held Saturday, May 4 in the Kannapolis Performing Arts Center. Hunt High School of Wilson and Community House Middle School of Charlotte took top honors and earned Superior ratings.

 

On March 8 the Charlotte Area Regional of the William Peace University NC Show Choir Competition was held in the Kannapolis Performing Arts Center at AL Brown High School. Finishing in first place in the high school division was host AL Brown High School with an overall rating of Superior. They performed a medley from Jeckyl and Hyde. Also advancing in second place was Myers Park High School who received a rating of Excellent.

In the Middle School division, Jay M Robinson Middle School took top honors with a Superior Rating. They performed a medley from The Little Mermaid.Finishing close behind in second place also with a Superior Rating was Community House Middle School. Also advancing to the State Final was Hickory Ridge MS (Excellent), Alexander Graham MS, (Good), and JN Fries MS (good).

On March 8 the East Regional of the William Peace University NC Show Choir Competition was held at Hunt High School in Wilson. Finishing in first place in was host Hunt High School with an overall rating of Superior. They performed Hernando's Hideaway, What I Did for Love, and Ease on Down the Road. Also advancing in second place was Voyager Academy with a rating of Excellent.

Kannapolis Performing Arts Center will host the State Final on May 4.

On March 1 the Triad Regional of the William Peace University NC Show Choir Competition was held at Simon G Atkins Academic and Technology High School in Winston-Salem.

High School Results are as follows:

  1. Mitchell HS - Excellent
  2. Wesleyan Christian Academy - Excellent
  3. Hickory HS - Good
  4. Statesville HS - Good
  5. Atkins A&T - Good

Also performing and qualifying with a "Good" rating was Mount Mourne Middle School. The top four high schools plus Mount Mourne Middle School qualified for the State Final. "Regional Champion" t-shirts were awards to all students from Mitchell HS and Mount Mourne MS.

 

The North Carolina Glee Club Competition is presented in Central North Carolina by Fox 50 of Durham.
